Change is inevitable!

Image
With the number of things going on in Grand Bahama one can only think that it is true, change is inevitable. Many times we do not like change but sometimes its necessary to take us from where we are to where we want to be. The big news this week is the proposed sale of the Grand Lucaya Resort. During the late 1990s, the three hotels on the Lucayan Beach stretch - the Lucayan Beach Hotel, the Atlantis Beach Hotel and the Radisson were losing their lustre and two of the three were owned by the Government of The Bahamas. In a bid to get the government out of commerce they offered the hotels to the newest conglomerate coming in and as many were told, reluctantly  they accepts the hotels.  They redid the entire strip with all three hotels including the implosion of the Atlantic Beach Hotel which was rebuilt from nothing and given its new shape.  Was it a success? Many said no but the news of its being put on the auction block and some saying it has already sold to Mediterranean

We Deliver

Another new business has come to Grand Bahama straight out of the UK (possibly US) which helps persons on that go who are unable to keep up with all the cooking. This one is called "We Deliver!" and it has just started this week. You can call them for menus and have them deliver you food from various restaurants around Freeport. It reminds me of being in the UK where I was taken to a website to choose my restaurant then check out their menus online and select what I wanted. It was all computerized and food was hot and delicious when it arrived. If this is what you are looking for.... they have it all in mind just for you.

Love and Business

Ok so this is late in April but Im just excited to see so many great things going on in Grand Bahama at the moment. During the Fidelity Free Women's Seminar I left feeling a bit concerned about the future for many women here. One of the predictions that women would be in more poverty struck me to the core.  While I will put aside the reasons I will say the idea that more and more women are trying to find ways to improve their lot in life is the way forward.  How to do that? Bringing up my kids my worries were always how to balance home and work. I worked hard long hours and my kids did not know me when they grew up, despite the fact that I did spend what I thought was a lot of time with them. But the payout was good enough to keep them and myself and to teach them what I thought to be good values. I cannot tell them as good as I can show them what I could like to see from them. But I learned throughout life that many women struggle with the same question of balance...

Clean up a success

Image
On Saturday March 12, 2016 civic groups of all ages came out to help in the clean up at the International Bazaar in Freeport.  Again on the Facebook Page there were many comments of nostalgia as the announcement of this cleanup was made. It's one of those things that has many different reactions. Some say tear it down and start again... but the structure is good for the most part for most of the buildings. Some ask where are the owners and why won't they do anything? Having examined this question and talking with a few persons it appears that there is great belief that only incoming investors can change the fate of this once thriving marketplace. Despite the evidence of a great increase in tourists coming to the island, none can be sent to the International Bazaar because there aren't sufficient businesses. But the owners say, they don't have enough people coming through and have a firm belief that until the hotel next door is up and thriving again, there w
