Going the extra mile

Image
So again listening to the great Napolean Hill I picked up on something that seems to be slipping by in our culture and in our world at the moment ... the whole idea of giving more of yourself without expecting much in return. His idea was, "Going the extra mile promotes you". How many times a day do you hear "that's above my pay grade" or "I'm not paid to do that"? This is the idea that has to be changed on a whole and head back to going that extra mile as good Christians. The Bible admonishes us to go above what is asked of us. If it's above our pay grade, one day it will be within our pay grade or even below our pay grade as we are promoted. When working for a company, one is apt to think that we are doing them a favour by showing up. Does that mean that in reverse they are doing us a favour by paying us? Something else I've learned along the way, you get paid what you negotiate. If you say you will take anything, remem...

The good in negativity...

Image
With emphasis in the blog being on changing the mindset for positive lasting growth in this community Im sure many may wonder why such a title. Is there good in negativity? My grand mother used to say, "there are all kinds of good including no good and good for nothing." In the words of motivator (still motiving even after his death) Zig Ziglar, "some people find failure as if there is a reward in it". I was somewhat put off just yesterday as a lady was talking with a mutual friend saying how bad things are "while some people are walking around saying its all good as if nothing is going wrong".  Maybe she meant me ... maybe she didn't. But I believe you get what you focus on, and if you focus on the bad there is hardly much good coming from that. I choose to believe what I choose to believe and if was the belief of one man in many cases that got the whole world moving in many ways. The one true God did that with creation. The one messia...

Potential... have we lost sight?

Image
It has been more than a little more than a month since my last post and I want to apologize and say that if you don't keep yourself pumped up, you can get lost in the fray of negativity. I love the words of Zig Ziglar who said, " People often say that motivation doesn't last.  Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." I have found these words to be all too true as I got caught up in the world of negativity and lost sight of the potential of this blog, the readers and the island. Over the weekend I started reading a lot of motivational tid-bits and it got me to thinking again about this blog and its potential. On Instagram I came across a lot of sights that spew positivity and can really get you going. Some also have ideas on what you can do to improve you. This morning I came across this advice from aimfortheimpossible which said:  "You should always try to do things that other people won't do so eventually you will be ab...

Action!

Image
Back in action with the new programme to help, I was reading "Before 5am" a page I subscribe to on Instagram and it had a message that said, "Inspiration+Motivation=Action. Just was was needed as I began this journey to help others... as Zig Zigler says, you can get what you want if you help enough people get what they want. What did the article say? It stated that we all have moments of inspiration and for may of us it can even occur numerous times throughout the day. But, it said, most people never act on their moments of inspiration; that those great ideas and solutions and products just go to the grave with them or these persons later see someone else acting on those ideas. The article said we do not act on our inspiration because we have no reason to act, that there was no desperation to move. However it said, when you put Inspiration with Motivation then we are moved to action and we hear stories of rags to riches or people...

How to change the world

Image
I came across this title recently and thought, "well really, I only want to change Grand Bahama." But of course what also came to mind was Michael Jackson's song "Man in the Mirror". The way to change anything is to begin by changing yourself. Grand Bahama needs a change in thought, a change in direction, a change in mindset to envision a change in the economy. The real goal is the change in economy. I don't have all the answers, and for questions I don't have any answers, but I feel the way forward is for me to begin by making some necessary changes. So Ive listened to Napoleon Hill's book "Think and Grow Rich" which says essentially just thinking positively will help you to grow rich. I've listened to Zig Zigler, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, Joel Osteen, and watched and read "The Secret". Zig and Les both emphasized the need to not only listen to motivational speech just once, but to do so over and over and to read...

Indicators

Image
Some time ago I learned that the true indicators of a turn around and stability of economy include the state of real estate and construction. In Grand Bahama this indicator has told many a tale of building and recession and building and recession. At present along with most of the rest of the world the situation is sluggish but according to what is going on in the real estate business there is a bit of movement. The movement is not huge nor is it with new built homes. Most of it has been with the repossessed homes in this buyers market. This means persons are able to purchase homes at quite a reduced rate. What I have found though is that a lot of people to cut out the bank and try to get homes that are available on rent to own terms. This is a great idea if they could find these homes but past stories have made this option rather slim to nil. But more persons are again owning homes or struggling with the banks to get their own homes back on the payment tracks. There are mo...

Gratitude

The law of attraction says you call into your life whatever your think about. If you are always second guessing yourself and your projects they have no where to go. But, if you use your determination and passion to go forward, thinking of the good results you can experience that good. Your bliss that turns into a garage idea can move into offering jobs for others. But your have to do as instructed by The Bible, "believe". Looking around Grand Bahama from 2010 til now I can see and hear that there is an unrest about the way things are and what they have been. While it is good to see where you came from, its not profitable to remain in the past. Using it as a guideline we forge forward. I questioned before, what are you thoughts on pushing forward after the Hawksbill Creek Agreement is finished? So far there has been no response other than to say how it can be amended. But there is a lot to be explored. Have you sat and thought of what is lacking in Freeport and how to ...

"Anything" is not a job!

Image
What shall I write about today was something I was grappling with since Tuesday, even thought I knew of something that was coming. My motivators gave me a lot to write about but I thought, what really applies to Grand Bahama. Really… most of it. To "Flip" or change Grand Bahama, we need to start with the mindset of the people. This is what brought me to the topic this morning - "Anything" is not a job. Its nearing that time when thousands of young people all over The Bahamas will be graduating high school. Oh the choices, the ambition, the new life that is within each and every one. Some will get to go off to school and others will stay here looking for a job because of the pressures of life and parents. But what are their dreams? Even if you knew what your kids dreams were, would you help them with it or will you call it silly and say that with this economy it would not work? How open are you to the new era that is upon us and allowing young people to be ...

Garage Ideas...

Image
In previous posts I have asked the question, what is your passion? I'm looking again at the passion and focus of everyone that is termed a success. So I was listening to a motivational speaker - Anthony Robbins who said something that made me think. His words were: You need to understand the needs,  beliefs and emotions that are controlling you  so that you can give more of yourself and appreciate what changes other people. This is important when thinking of starting a business because it cannot be just about you making money, although it may be the goal; but you need to be able to serve someone else for your idea to be successful. The late Zig Zigler always said you can get what you want as long as you help other people get what they want. The great garage businesses that are talked about are:  Amazon, Apple, Disney, Google, Harley Davidson, HP, Mattel, Microsoft, Dell and Nike. Of course all of these are American, but with the world being what it is you are ...

What makes you smile?

Image
I got up with this thought in my head this morning, as I think of the possibilities of Grand Bahama. Do listen to Doris Day and get that positive feeling that we can do it! We can change Grand Bahama! And we can start with a mite just today. Ive been listening to people like  Dale Carnegie, Zig Zigler, Wayne Dyer,  Og Mandino,  Napoleon Hill  and Joel Osteen just yesterday and they all seem to have a message that a friend of mine recently told me as she faces tragedy - one day at a time. There is no such think as multi-tasking. You need to give what you are doing your all. Do it one day, one moment at a time. That is quite an eye opener. Another message everyone seem to have is that you need to have a dream/goal and to write it down, no matter how impossible it appears. Have something to aim for - set up your dart board, then put then dart in your hand a few paces back and go for it. Once you have written down this goal, the only way you will remember in th...
