Christie Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Centreville on The Hawksbill Creek Grand Bahama (Deep Water Harbour And Industrial Area) Extension of Tax Exemption Period Amendment Bill 2016 on Wednesday, February 17th, 2016: Mr. Speaker, At the outset of my contribution to the debate on the Bill now before us to extend for three months the expiring concessions under the Hawksbill Creek Agreement I should point out that this extension will allow my Government the time needed to conclude a set of important arrangements to further strengthen and expand the economy of Grand Bahama. When my administration took office less than four years ago, the economy of Grand Bahama was depressed with high unemployment and resultant economic hardships. Brain storm with me…..

So Im thinking…. What are some of the ways in which we can bring the island to life. Let's not say back to life, but move on and say "to life" as we even toast it. Somethings that came to mind, and your a free to write in to give your suggestions, but … here we go A music festival… bringing in a lot of talent and people. A music destination, as a number or Caribbean countries have done in the recent past. Almost all have Jazz Festivals, and Carnivals, Crop Over, etc. A comedy festival and invite some of the great comedians to come and perform over a three or four day weekend. These people have followings that would come from everywhere around the world and we would get to host them. International wine or rum tasting expos. How about making sea grape wines from our grapes already grown here? Then I was thinking, how about we bring back the marathons which again brings people from all over the world. Light manufacturing factories…. such as clothing, shoes...
