A recent success story told in Grand Bahama

Image
This past week the Grand Bahama heard of a recent success business story which is well worth the sharing. It was the story of Bahamas Striping Ltd and Atario Micthell its president who began with the governments past venture capital programme called the "Start up Programme." He turned $5000.00 he said to millions and is presently giving back to the community. For the second year TEDx Talks is coming to Grand Bahama with just as great a set of talks. Now if you missed it last year I must say you missed a lot but here you can catch up. Ok it took me a while to find this out but follow these links and you will see the talks: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=TEDxGrandBahama For those who do not know, TED  is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. So a TEDx Talk is also a showcase for speakers presenting great, well-formed ideas in under 18 minutes. These talks in Grand Bahama are so very much within the same thoughts as Flipping Grand Bahama we asked to be part of it, to sponsor the programme by advertising. So watch out for more information on the ...

Action!

Image
Back in action with the new programme to help, I was reading "Before 5am" a page I subscribe to on Instagram and it had a message that said, "Inspiration+Motivation=Action. Just was was needed as I began this journey to help others... as Zig Zigler says, you can get what you want if you help enough people get what they want. What did the article say? It stated that we all have moments of inspiration and for may of us it can even occur numerous times throughout the day. But, it said, most people never act on their moments of inspiration; that those great ideas and solutions and products just go to the grave with them or these persons later see someone else acting on those ideas. The article said we do not act on our inspiration because we have no reason to act, that there was no desperation to move. However it said, when you put Inspiration with Motivation then we are moved to action and we hear stories of rags to riches or people...

Buy a Tshirt to help the economy

Flipping Grand Bahama has been around for some two years now and we are now about to take it up a notch. We are starting a programme to help small businesses find necessary funding for some of their great projects. We have advocated over and over that people become entrepreneurs as a way to make Grand Bahama better. We say stop waiting to be rescued and just rescue yourself. As many, even I would say sometimes, but the funds are not there. I have checked out FSI and found the various ways to getting funding but I wanted to have even more fun with the idea. There is the thought of crowd funding and then there is another way of making a statement while helping others. For that statement we have ordered T-shirts that we are hoping our readers purchase online from which the proceeds will go toward assisting persons with viable business plans and ideas for a business in Grand Bahama. Of course we dont expect to be handing out millions at first (that comes later) but we do h...

West End Activities

Image
Ever wondered what goes in in West End for our tourists? West End does seem remote when you live in Freeport, but I just found a release from Old Bahama Bay on what they have to offer: Old Bahama Bay is thrilled to be able to offer all new fishing and water sports activities, just in time for our busy summer boating season with the opening of two new operations: Fishing with Billy Black and West End Water sports. The legendary sport fishing Captain Billy Black is now operating sport fishing charters out of Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour in conjunction with Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts.  Black is operating out of The Duchess, his 50-foot Hatteras which has just come out of the yard, having been fully updated and re-powered to offer exceptional comfort and safety. Old Bahama Bay is also an Official IGFA Weigh Station.  World record fish can be weighed and recorded right at the resort. Sportfishing Charters with the Legendary Billy Black Full Day Charter Ra...

Grand Bahama to get three museums

Image
I greeted this bit of information found on Bahamasinfo.com with great delight as it means great things for Grand Bahama. The following is all the information in entirety: GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas -- From Freeport to West End, three new heritage projects are set to open in the nation’s second city—a welcomed addition to the island’s tour offerings. The Grand Bahama office of Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation (AMMC) is collaborating with the Ministry for Grand Bahama and the Ministry of Tourism on the projects. One of the more significant of the development projects for the island is the construction of The Museum of Grand Bahama. This project is supported through a partnership with the Grand Bahama Port Authority, local businesses and The Bahamas Government.  The proposed museum will be located on the grounds of the old Shannon Lakes Country Club which is situated next to the Garden of the Groves, Freeport. Beyond the main city, AMMC is also spearheading two h...
