Starting over again.... so soon
So....
Grand Bahama has seen many storms as it is in the hurricane belt, but Hurricane Matthew has been said by all to be the worst in known history.
However in the bright side, after this hurricane within days we had water; before the end of the first week we had light and for some before the end of the second week we have internet.
There is much to be thankful for...
But I listen to a question posed to be by my significant other....
How do you pray to the one who brought the storm?
And how could you be so happy that he change everything around?
Well... the only way to fix some injuries is to break them again and reset.
To properly "flip" a piece of furniture, a home, a business... you need to take it apart and check it out.
How would you know how fast water, power, and the internet could be restored if you never tested it?
If you asked for patience how could you not expect trials to test that you have all that you ask for?
It has been a very interesting time filled with learning.
How some people accept and adjust is incredible.
Some are in shock that may last too long and cause them to loose even more.
Some are in flight mode and have already left the island.
Some are ready for a challenge and are rebuilding already with a better thought in mind. Flipping their homes with ideas of beating another storm should it hit.
Some are in their element... criminal element and finding ways to prey on the weaker ones, sad to say.
For me, I've enjoyed helping in the rebuilding efforts and the above pictures are of gifts from Samaritan's Purse, a great organization that has care packages for emergency relief. Along with much-needed tarpaulin, they offered blankets, care packages, and water sterilizers. This was great to watch, help and record.
The Grand Bahama Port Authority Ltd stepped right in to help to bring the island back to productivity helping in the various communities even outside Freeport/Lucaya.
Other civic organizations have also thrown their hands in the ring to help including the Rotary Clubs of Grand Bahama which formed its own Disaster Management Committee.
The tourism business took quite a hit, but the industrial sector was also very badly hit and by the time the storm was over, another storm of unemployment hit.
This is just for a time.... as time changes everything and soon I believe with all the infrastructure back up, we will be brighter days ahead. It will never be as it was, but it can be better... a lot better. Let's make it so!
