Ever wondered what goes in in West End for our tourists? West End does seem remote when you live in Freeport, but I just found a release from Old Bahama Bay on what they have to offer: Old Bahama Bay is thrilled to be able to offer all new fishing and water sports activities, just in time for our busy summer boating season with the opening of two new operations: Fishing with Billy Black and West End Water sports. The legendary sport fishing Captain Billy Black is now operating sport fishing charters out of Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour in conjunction with Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts.  Black is operating out of The Duchess, his 50-foot Hatteras which has just come out of the yard, having been fully updated and re-powered to offer exceptional comfort and safety. I greeted this bit of information found on Bahamasinfo.com with great delight as it means great things for Grand Bahama. The following is all the information in entirety: GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas -- From Freeport to West End, three new heritage projects are set to open in the nation’s second city—a welcomed addition to the island’s tour offerings. The Grand Bahama office of Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation (AMMC) is collaborating with the Ministry for Grand Bahama and the Ministry of Tourism on the projects. One of the more significant of the development projects for the island is the construction of The Museum of Grand Bahama. Following my post last Friday, this was the post I got from Janet Albury: Morning Yasmin, I read your column with great interest and need to enlighten you. Sometimes perception is perceived as truth and sometimes, when  a story is repeatedly told, it changes and so does the truth.  The 'closing of the gates' and persons having to leave the area of Freeport at dusk, had nothing to do with colour... it had everything to do with the 'bonded' status of Freeport. My parents moved here in the mid-1950's and lived during all of the changes and issues. During the creation of an historical exhibit in 2004, I interviewed several persons... one being a Bahamian gentleman whom I fondly regarded and  who sat on the political sidelines. When the matter of 'the gate' was discussed, he told me with a chuckle that it was a lie... used for political purposes. My mother would attest most adamantly that the gate was not used to keep the black Bahamians out! More lies!.....

After my last post and comments made I had to reflect with a very heavy heart. I try to listen to positive things in the morning to get that vibe going. They say thats what makes the successful person continue even with some failures. In a closed Fackbook group I got the response I searched for last year ... the affects on the people/children moving from Freeport after the famous "Bend or Break" Speech. For many of this age including myself, having read the full speech it is hard to see the correlation between what was said and the mass exodus. My last post was supposed to make people see that while some people are still sitting on fence bemoaning the affects of the 2004/2005 storms that there are ways in which they can move forward and gave ideas on entrepreneurial efforts they can try.
