There are many aspects of recovery and although sometimes we have money right away to throw as the problem, the psychological aspects of it stays much longer. In Grand Bahama over ten years ago three devastating hurricanes hit the island after three years of lull and before that a forty year break. The generations the have experienced the hurricanes Frances, Jeanne and Wilma had never really seen such powerful storms and the recovery with no water for weeks after, much less power, etc, was unheard of in this paradise. Felix in 1999 which was a really wet hurricane came close but did not hit the mark. Then came Matthew last October. In some persons minds they are tired of hearing of an excuse called Hurricane Matthew but there are people still having nightmares from the storm. It's Monday, Oct. 3rd and we are once again facing a tropical storm which only reminds me of an economist here once talking about the different types of storms that we have faced and were expected to face. Yes, the country has taken many hits over the past 20 years in tropical storms/ hurricanes as well as financial storms and changes. Well actually, the world has had many hits as we meet reality vs a dream world of a false economy. It is easy to change all this as a "friend" said in a recent comment, in a communist country, but in a democratic country, there is a lot of people to go through for approval and then another round of talks and developments to implement. This is not to say its a bad or good thing, it is just what it is. This always gives those persons seeing visions and prospects/opportunities to get themselves together to be ready for come what may. This is a time of change ... not just in one place.. but all over the world. As things have changed but for the worst for some... the affects of three hurricanes in Grand Bahama in 2004/2005 has made a lot of people here very negative and depressed. It's like watching Eww from Winnie The Poo who is forever depressed and has nothing good to say or think. Always feeling that whatever can go wrong, will go wrong and at the worst possible time, a law of Murphy.  But things can and will change. I heard of a story of a young man in Grand Bahama being counseled recently and I can only applaud the gentleman who did the counseling. The young man had apparently went to restaurant to beg for food but what he got was so much more as the business man explained that if he fed him, he would be back but explained to him the ways of the system and how to get some money and how to help himself. Then came the important question that he asked the young man, "but, what are you doing for you?" It is a wake up call for all Grand Bahama residents living here after the storms of 2004/2005 - "What are you doing for you?" Yes it has been rough but there is something you can do. Yes the government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority pose some challenges especially if you think you don't know someone important or that you are not connected to someone important. But you can do something for you. If there are no jobs, follow your passion and do what you love to do...
