Just whe n you thought things were at its absolute worst, something else happens.  Hello again and thanks to all who have continued to look out for these posts. I do apologize again for the break but there has been a lot going on ... not all positive in this small island community. A lot of good has happened and looking at Christmas it appears that a lot of people had a fairly ok Christmas ... the lights were put up despite the work still going on from the damages of Hurricane Matthew. But... there are people still out of work and one of the bigger hotels still have yet to re-open. Then came the report that they will not re-open. A release from  Sunwing Travel Group said this: On October 6th of 2016, Hurricane Matthew caused significant damage to the Memories Resort and forced its closure. Despite an immediate response from Sunwing Travel Group and the Government of The Bahamas to secure alternative accommodations, protect flying, and expedite the necessary ...

Our rewards in life will always match our services - Earl Nightingale

Ok, also put, "whatsoever you sow, so shall you reap."  This blog is about positive attitudes to change the way we live... in that vein listening to more of Earl Nightingale on the very topic was very refreshing. He said that looking at any neighbourhood one would be able to see the type of people that live there. The service they give to the neighbourhood reflects in the way it looks. He went further to note that richer areas always seem neat and tidy and well kept, while the yards of the persons who are unemployed seem rather unkept.. looking at the contrast those who have the time do not utilize it in their appearances. That was a hard-hitting fact, but a fact nonetheless. Today puts us another day way from Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm is forecast at this moment to hit Grand Bahama by Thursday. Late last week it was set to miss us and as it moves on its snail's pace, it is constantly changing direction.  It is has wrecked havoc on a number of C...

Getting our grove back

Ahh, the slow comfortable life of island living. What we all seem to forget is that in life there are always ebbs and flows, and while Grand Bahama may have had its share of ebbs, the flows were not so bad. Revising the "why" of this blog I began to think its undertaking is quite vast. To reach each Grand Bahamian to say wake up and prepare for the next flow is daunting and sometimes self-defeating. The reality of it though is that if we don't then prepare now and get in on the ground level while there are so many ground breakings then you can so easily miss out and cry out that the people from other islands and other nations are once again taking everything from you. We have had a really bad time following the markets crash of 2007/8 and recovery has been extremely slow. The hurricanes of 2004/5 as noted before, is still affecting the people of and residents of this island. But to move on, to make it better seems to bee almost too hard for some. But it is...

What are you waiting for?

Very late last evening I was going through my Twitter feed and came across an article by a fellow Bahamian, no less someone from Freeport and I was amazed at its content. After hearing so many negative comments about where we are and where we are going, this was refreshing even though it was not written specifically for people living here. Its content was awe inspiring and so I'm sharing it here. IS THERE ENOUGH WEALTH FOR EVERYONE? By Jackson Ritchie, Diversified Investments & Business Solutions. Author There is an ongoing discussion or even argument today regarding the inequality of wealth distribution. The international agency Oxfam warned earlier this year that the combined wealth of the richest 1 percent will overtake that of the other 99 percent of the global population by 2016. There are many reasons for this inequality however my discussion today will focus not so much on whether or not there should be redistribution and if so how, but instead I want t...
