....an aside
I have been checking on this last post to see what response I got because it was such an important speech. It was "the" speech that is said to have decided the fate of the island and the country.
What I have discovered is the root of the evil that plagues our land ... politics!
After re-posting and re-posting this blog I found that the only remarks made came from persons who were of the Progressive Liberal Party and that anyone of any other persuasion I suppose did not want to read, agree, make comments because they would fear how they would be perceived.
I have spoken to persons who said that they felt Sir Lynden Pindling was only looking out for the people of The Bahamas at the time this statement was made. It was further said that he began with good intentions and this was most appreciated as they then went into the "bad" of his later years.
I say the "evil" that plagues our land because the negativity of the people to me is THE mean cause of Freeport not getting up and moving on.
Following this speech it is said that many of the foreign investors packed up and left.
I question, does that mean they were not of good intent, or were they offended by that thought of mixing with the "natives".
As they left and "dark" Bahamians were allowed in Freeport a lot of things changed.
I have been reading up on Freeport from another blog and for some of that information you can go here: http://www.jabezcorner.com/Grand_Bahama/Informal4.html.
This tells a lot of the old days and even some of what happened since the "Bend Or Break" speech.
I personally have no political affiliation and pray I never do, if it means that it will stop me from speaking my mind especially if someone of another party says something or does something I agree with. The fear of losing my position in a party should never be more important than simply being able to side with good when good presents itself.
I have found that people all over the world seem to be slaves to politics and therefore dictatorships are easier to create. The trouble is when we wholeheartedly without reservations decided to agree with someone all the time and make it appear that theirs is the only view that is important, that person soon begins to feel that they can do anything and with he consent of the people around begins the thoughts of grandeur and the feeling of doing whatever he/she feels. No dictatorship is ever begun without the consent of the majority of the people whose children have to live with the results.
