Do you really want it?

As I sit to write every Tuesday and Friday mornings, at the back of my head I hear the negative things that some may say - someone reading this will be saying... "how could she be this positive when things look so bleak in Freeport?"

I really believe that we get what we want and we get what we say we want - both the same, both different.

If you believe it can and will change, you will be doing something to aide in bringing about the change.

If you have decided that it's over and there is nothing you can do, you will do nothing and your prophecy will come true.

Did you want it to come true or were you hoping for change? If you were saying one thing but hoping for another you will get lots of the prediction, but somewhere in there you will see where others were able to benefit from some positives.

Freeport needs a lot!

According to the Flemming Strategy we need at least $26 billion to get us started. But that is only to put one group in charge - Hutchison Whampoa. We are already suffering from monopoly, do we need another?

Without that $26 billion, what can we do at home to start and create sustainable, productive businesses that will bring about employment for ourselves and others?

I read this morning about a young lady in India who "accidentally" started a bag business. She flunked out of her first year at school and while at home she started making bags. She had a job working at a convenience store and asked her employer to allow her to sell some of the bags there which is agreed. The bags become a hit, but when she opened her first big store, it flops.

But she does not give up, and later does get a store going and employing 500 workers to help with the production of bags.

When I read it, about I was reminded about the bags that we make locally that seem to stay here. What about the connections with countries around the world?

We can do it!

I heard another story recently about an idea given to a young man in Freeport some years ago that was growing, but the young man decided to give it up.

The idea - window washing. How many people like to wash their own windows? How many people would love to call someone else up to clean their windows for them? hmmm

These of course are other garage ideas. But it begins with wanting to be the change we want to see.

Do what you enjoy and start small. In time it will catch on and your ray of sunshine will eventually spread to others.

What are you doing for you today?
