Openings....

This week in Grand Bahama we saw the opening of a new insurance company for which the Prime Minister and others were present.

Of note the Prime Minister Perry Christie said that it is important for officials to be positive about everything in their country as he chided the Deputy Leader of the Opposition Free National Movement Peter Turnquest who said the people of Grand Bahama needed to know about the state of this island with the upcoming changes set for the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.

Mr. Christie stated that he has a few persons already working on the best way to settle the matter of the tax concessions that will be coming to an end as of August 2015 which at present could have some devastating results.

He said that the government will have an answer in time to report back to the country that will be in the best interest of all.

He noted that he has been criticized for being so optimistic in his mid year budget speech recently, but he said he has to be optimistic about the future especially with the projects presently going on in the various islands as he named some of them.

For Grand Bahama he said that the hotels are full which makes him glad.

The Prime Minister spent the day on Grand Bahama on official duty beginning by opening the 4th IDB Caribbean Governors Regional Meeting at Grand Lucayan on Thursday.

It was later in the afternoon despite the cold and windy condition that he congratulated the three daring entrepreneurs who left one insurance company to open the Freeport Insurance Agents & Brokers Ltd.

G. Lawrence Palmer ACII, Donald Ward and Deborah Knowles are the three that are taking on the insurance market in Grand Bahama showing that a company can be started in Grand Bahama and we long to see them grow to possibly take over The Bahamas.
