What are you waiting for?

Very late last evening I was going through my Twitter feed and came across an article by a fellow Bahamian, no less someone from Freeport and I was amazed at its content. After hearing so many negative comments about where we are and where we are going, this was refreshing even though it was not written specifically for people living here. Its content was awe inspiring and so I'm sharing it here. IS THERE ENOUGH WEALTH FOR EVERYONE? By Jackson Ritchie, Diversified Investments & Business Solutions. Author There is an ongoing discussion or even argument today regarding the inequality of wealth distribution. The international agency Oxfam warned earlier this year that the combined wealth of the richest 1 percent will overtake that of the other 99 percent of the global population by 2016. There are many reasons for this inequality however my discussion today will focus not so much on whether or not there should be redistribution and if so how, but instead I want t...

Be a problem solver!

It's about over a week since the last post and in that time we have hosted the first Bahamas Womenpreneur Power Conference and Expo at the Pelican Bay Hotel in Freeport. Well the number of participants was not what we wanted but we had a number of vendors and over all I would deem it a success. Collaborating FSI, with Media Unlimited and Flipping Grand Bahama we did a lot of promotions online and some radio advertising, as well as newspaper articles. We learned a lot in putting on the event, and even more from the speakers on staring business, how to deal with the recently implemented Value Added Tax (VAT) and where funding is possible in The Bahamas. Again the aim of this blog is to be a game changer, to change the mindset of the people in the country and particularly on the island of Grand Bahama for us to change it into a successful little island. Of great importance we learned about the concessions implemented for the people living outside Freeport and those concess...

Yesterday afternoon the Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas Perry Christie announced that there will be an extension of about six months for the concession that are due to expire in another few days. Here are his words in the announcement: Nassau, Bahamas – House Communication by the Rt. Hon. Perry G. These extended concessions are now set to expire on August 4 th , 2015 – just a few days from now. In the interests of clarity, the tax concessions are available to licencees in the Port Area of Grand Bahama – better known as Freeport, and include the foll...

What is your influence?

This morning I came across a quote by famous silent comedian Charlie Chaplin that made me smile, "Nothing is permanent in this world, not even our troubles." When I think of the state of Freeport, I take comfort in these words. And I think God is trying to tell me something because all around I keep hearing positivity ... maybe its just what I'm looking for purposefully, but from Instagrams' Prosperityquotes this morning I got these words, "do not worry about anyone's current position in life. Keep doing what you're doing and the end results will show. You can't lose focus on where you're going ... or else it'll be a disaster at the turning point." We are all looking forward to a better Grand Bahama. We have many thoughts on what would bring that about, but there is so much negativity and doubt that those with money would not put it in the economy to make it what it can be. We need to change the mindset. In the words of daily.do...

Potential... have we lost sight?

Image
It has been more than a little more than a month since my last post and I want to apologize and say that if you don't keep yourself pumped up, you can get lost in the fray of negativity. I love the words of Zig Ziglar who said, " People often say that motivation doesn't last.  Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily." I have found these words to be all too true as I got caught up in the world of negativity and lost sight of the potential of this blog, the readers and the island. Over the weekend I started reading a lot of motivational tid-bits and it got me to thinking again about this blog and its potential. On Instagram I came across a lot of sights that spew positivity and can really get you going. Some also have ideas on what you can do to improve you. This morning I came across this advice from aimfortheimpossible which said:  "You should always try to do things that other people won't do so eventually you will be ab...

What's your passion ....

Graduation season once again and just this morning I read an article from a young Bahamian woman who said that the professions that a young Bahamian can return home and find employment in are: law, medicine and accounting. I smiled to myself because she is right in a way. For many years I have been very concerned about the youth especially at this time when the world can begin to feel so vast and a future so very unclear. However everyone and so did I at first, have the notion that finding a job is the only way to go. In the industrial age that was most important and set you off on a career path that was easily tracked, but we are no longer in that age. We have reached the age of technology and in another few years it will be even more defined in robotics. We need to stop thinking of today only and prepare ourselves for the tomorrows: they are only a day away. Was it less than 20 years ago most of us were introduced to mobile phones and lap tops. How have those things chang...
