How to change the world
I came across this title recently and thought, "well really, I only want to change Grand Bahama."
But of course what also came to mind was Michael Jackson's song "Man in the Mirror". The way to change anything is to begin by changing yourself.
Grand Bahama needs a change in thought, a change in direction, a change in mindset to envision a change in the economy.
The real goal is the change in economy.
I don't have all the answers, and for questions I don't have any answers, but I feel the way forward is for me to begin by making some necessary changes.
So Ive listened to Napoleon Hill's book "Think and Grow Rich" which says essentially just thinking positively will help you to grow rich.
I've listened to Zig Zigler, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, Joel Osteen, and watched and read "The Secret".
Zig and Les both emphasized the need to not only listen to motivational speech just once, but to do so over and over and to read over your notes from it continually to help you to change your mind.
I have heard a lot of negative talk about and in Grand Bahama which really needs maybe a month or six months maybe even a year of listening on a daily basis to change attitudes but with the right attitude to a brighter future the look of the economy would change immediately and a new future begin to dawn.
At first I thought the use of The Bible in "The Secret" was almost sacrilege but I realized that if you believe it changes can be made.
It reminded me of more innocent days when I really believed a thing could happen and it did.
My philosophy was "where there is a will there is a way... I have the will so God will make a way" and many of the things I wanted I got including passing my math GCE exam when my teacher told me to do something more constructive like go to the beach instead of taking that exam. Oh well ... I proved him wrong with just the amount of will and God making a way.
I agree with Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie who felt that the secret of success, positive thinking, should be taught in schools.
'It will work for anyone who is ready for it" said Carnegie about this secret who gave this knowledge to Hill who then wrote the book "Think and Grow Rich."
More people individually affected by this secret could make a great change in the island.
